    While waiting for Phil …

    13/11/2019 / No Comments

While waiting for Phil and Sheila, who will pay us a visit next summer, I realised I will run out of porter well ahead of their visit. This is unheard of, as Phil is a great lover of porter. I immediately started planning making a new one. Porter is a dark style, top fermented beer developed in London long time ago. The name was first recorded in the 18th century, and is thought to come from its popularity with street and river porters, who carried objects for others. I have made this beer several times and have a real good recipe. Making the beer consist of several steps. Order, pay and collect yeast, malted barley…

    Gold wedding at Støtvik Hotel

    12/11/2019 / No Comments

I haven’t had time to do so much of writing lately, but it has all calmed down now. On Saturday we were invited to Tove’s cousin Vigdis and Torgrims gold wedding. The venue was kept at Støtvik Hotel at Larkollen, abouit an hour south of us. The hotel has a stunning location on the shore of the Oslofjord, crowded by people during the summer. However, quite chilly now, more correct to say cold. Vigdis and Torgrims whole family was invited and nearly all present, just one missing. We started the event by having a game of bowling in the hotel’s basement, and of course a beer or drink from the…

Last week has certainly been busy. After our vaccination programme on Monday, we drove up to the summerhouse for the first time after coming home from Cyprus. We knew that there has been work in the woods around us. The forrest owners have sent in big forrest machines to take out the timber. Normally it takes 40 years for the forrest to be commercial. I still remember way back in time the last time they did it. When the forrest machines work out there, they make a mess. The tracks they leave can be up to a meter high, and timber not big enough and branches are just left to…

    Pea Soup and technical challenges

    29/10/2019 / No Comments

It’s now a week since returning from hot Cyprus to cold Norway. Even Though the weather was kind of warm the first days after returning, it is now into normal for October to be. Last night we had temperatures just below zero. For a while last evening I thought the first snow had arrived, but it was only humidity freezing to the ground. The weather during daytime has been clear, sunny and cool, giving us a chance to clear the garden of withered leaves etc. In preparation to our trip to USA, Belize, Honduras and Mexico, we went down to the local vaccination office and topped up with needed vaccines.…

During the last few days, since returning from Cyprus, I have worked on some issues on my blog. No1, the multilingual bit. I have hit some problems here after testing some plug-ins. So far, the ones I have testet has not been up to my standards. So therefore, my friends, I will continue writing in English for another while. No big deal actually, as the blog is most of all meant for my English speaking friends. No2, the ability to subscribe to my blog. During my search I found 3 service providers that could fullfil my needs, Aweber, Feedburner and MailChimp. Aweber has a heavy price tag, $19 per month…

This bulb just could not take more water. A result from the last storm with water flooding down the electric channel. Luckily it looks like we have got away with very little damage. Maria sent me this video this morning

About

This is the blog of the every day life of a humble, reasonably happy elderly, retired man, also known as a grumpy old git.

The blog was started for 2 reasons.  First, my missus claims I’m starting to be forgetful.  Keeping a blog will make it easier to remember.  Second, as I keep the blog on my own server, it will help me staying closer to my old profession.

The blog will be updated at random, sometimes daily, sometimes not, just when I feel for it.

After a long time of considerations, I have abandoned the idea of having a multi language blog.  This simply takes to much time and effort.  Translation is now based on Google translate, not foolproof, but will give you an idea of what it’s all about.   The blog is mainly meant for my English speaking friends, and therefore the posts are written in English.  However, feel free to comment in any language
